A tragic accident on Interstate 35 near 7th Street claimed the life of 78-year-old Gerald Stagg of Chillicothe, Missouri on Tuesday afternoon.
The single-vehicle crash happened just after noon, leaving the local community in shock.
The crash was reported at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, and the location puts it right along a heavily traveled stretch of I-35 in Wyandotte County.
According to local reports, Gerald’s Vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right, continuing down to the embankment and later strucking a tree.
The details are brief, but the scene itself points to a sudden and violent impact that ended the man’s life in instantly and was later sent to Forensic Medical.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, he was not wearing a seat belt and was driving a 2012 Mazda 5.

For drivers in the Kansas City area, the incident is another reminder that even a short drive on a major interstate can turn dangerous fast. I-35 is one of the region’s busiest corridors, and crashes there often lead to delays, emergency response, and traffic slowdowns while investigators sort out what happened.
At this point, officials have only released the basic details of the crash, and the full cause has not been publicly expanded on.
As said earlier report confirms the vehicle went off the roadway and hit a tree, but no additional contributing factors were included in the initial update.
