Kansas City will have another community soccer event on the calendar this spring as the Big Heart Tournament gets set for May 2 through May 17, 2026 at the 9th & Van Brunt Athletic Fields Soccer Fields.

Open to both youth and adult players, the event is built around more than just competition.

It is being framed as the People’s Tournament, bringing together players from across the Kansas City metro to celebrate culture, community and teamwork through soccer.

What gives the tournament its local flavor is the way teams are encouraged to take pride in where they come from.

Participants can represent their country of heritage or their neighborhood, giving the event a strong community feel while also creating the kind of atmosphere that makes local tournaments stand out.

Instead of feeling like just another weekend sports event, the Big Heart Tournament has been designed to reflect the different communities that make up Kansas City, with a mix of friendly competition and cultural pride at the center of it.

The tournament will run on Saturdays and Sundays during the May 2-17 stretch, giving teams multiple weekends to compete.

Organizers say each team is guaranteed three games in a World Cup-style format, which adds a little more meaning and structure to every match.

That setup should help make the event appealing not only to players, but also to families, friends and local supporters who want to follow along over the course of the tournament.

The adult division is open to ages 18 and older and costs $250 per team. On the youth side, the tournament will be free, which could make it one of the more accessible local soccer events for younger players this spring.

Youth divisions will include 10U for ages 8 to 10, 13U for ages 11 to 13, and 16U for ages 14 to 16.

Organizers have also noted that uniforms will be available, adding another helpful detail for teams getting ready to sign up.

With the registration deadline set for April 15, 2026, the tournament gives Kansas City-area players a clear chance to get involved in a community-centered soccer event that feels bigger than just the scores.

At a time when the city continues to build on its growing soccer identity, the Big Heart Tournament offers a local stage for players and neighborhoods to come together, compete and celebrate the game in a way that feels personal to Kansas City.

This is the kind of event that can connect across age groups and communities at once. For younger players, it offers a free chance to compete in an organized setting.

For adults, it creates another opportunity to represent a neighborhood or heritage with pride. And for the city itself, it adds one more strong local soccer story to the spring calendar.
